Woman told to pay debt

Clotilder Mwanza
MAGISTRATE Tamara Chibindi yesterday warned a Harare woman to settle her former builder’s US$25 debt.

Catherine Sithole left the courtroom disappointed after her application for a peace order against her builder, Tobias Mazira, was thrown out for lack of merit.

Sithole told the court that Mazira used to work at her house before she terminated the contract.

“Mazira assaulted me and grabbed my private parts. He comes to my church and place of residence daily demanding money that I don’t owe him.

“I paid him and I have a witness, handina chikwereti naye,” said Sithole.

In response, Mazira told the court that Sithole has an outstanding debt of US$25.

“I never assaulted her, and she is lying. She is refusing to pay the balance,” said Mazira.

Magistrate Chibindi asked Sithole if she paid Mazira in full and she declined to answer.

“You now want the court to intervene because you don’t want to pay someone’s money in full. Stop holding onto his money to avoid noise with him,” said magistrate Chibindi.

Chibindi then dismissed her application and told her to pay up, and stop abusing the builder.
