A 63-year-old Pumula East man reportedly lost a car to his estranged wife who took advantage of his absence and sold it for $2,000.
Anelisi Chikapa, 39, allegedly sold Ernest Gumede’s Peugeot to one Owen Ncube and diverted the money to her personal use.
Chikapa appeared before West Commonage magistrate Sheunesu Matova yesterday and pleaded not guilty to charges of disposing property knowing that her ex-husband had an interest in.
Mufaro Mageza prosecuted. Chikapa was remanded out of custody to September 1.
“I am not guilty your worship because he was aware that I sold the car. I am now surprised when he says I sold the car without his consent,” she said.
Prosecutors say on an unknown date but last year between January and July, Gumede left his car parked at his house and went to his rural home.
While he was away, Chikapa sold the vehicle for $2,000 without his permission. Ndiweni was surprised when he got a call from Ncube who informed him that he had bought the car.
When Ndiweni questioned Chikapa she denied the allegations and claimed that she had taken the car to a mechanic for servicing.
Chikapa then gave her ex-husband Ncube’s address. He got there, saw the car and Ncube told him that he had bought it from his ex-wife.
