Women arrested for spate of burglaries

TWO women were arrested for several house and business burglaries in Zvishavane.

Talent Mutangi, 19, and Virginia Sibanda, 37, were arrested for unlawful entry and theft charges, while their male accomplices, Joe Sibanda and Itai Sibanda, fled.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson, Detective Assistant Inspector Racheal Muteweri, confirmed the arrest and appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of Joe and Itai.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Zvishavane have arrested two suspects for unlawful entry into premises and theft cases which they committed in Zvishavane and the two are now clearing nine counts,” said Det Ass Insp Muteweri.

“During the period extending from December 5, 2022 to January 5, the two accused persons together with their accomplices, who are still at large, would target business premises in Zvishavane town, break into shops before getting away with groceries, clothing, electrical gadgets and other valuables.

“In one of the incidents that occurred on January 2, the accused persons broke into a complainant’s shop and got away with solar panels, a speaker, car amplifier, radio amplifier, car battery and other valuables, all valued at US$805.

“Luck ran out for the accused persons on January 5 when detectives got information that three accused persons had broken into another shop.

“A team of detectives swiftly reacted to the information leading to the arrest of the two while their accomplice escaped,” said Det Ass Insp Muteweri.

She said further investigations unearthed that the accused persons had committed eight similar offences in Zvishavane, and property worth US$2 700 was recovered following the arrest of the two women.

Det Ass Insp Muteweri thanked members of the public for supplying credible information that led to the arrest of the two.

She urged people to reinforce security measures at their business and residential premises to avoid falling prey to criminals.
