WOMEN comprised the majority of graduates at Africa University’s 31st graduation ceremony held today, with 59 percent of the graduands being female.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Mageto said the numbers reflected the university’s commitment to inclusive, pan-African education.
A total of 623 students graduated, including 114 international students and 509 Zimbabweans.
“As a pan-African institution, our numbers speak for themselves. The majority of our graduates are women, which marks significant progress,” said Professor Mageto.

“The high percentage of women graduating today represents a substantial shift in higher education, with Africa University continuing to lead the way in empowering women across Africa.”
Professor Mageto urged them to remain grounded in values, character, and reputation as they enter an uncertain global economy.
“You are more than just degree recipients; you are catalysts, you are leaders,” he said.
He reminded the students that their values should guide their life decisions, including how they treat others and engage in ethical business practices.
“Character is not a product to be sold, but is defined by humility and noble intentions,” he said.
Professor Mageto also cautioned graduates against losing themselves in pursuit of rapid success.
“With the rise of artificial intelligence, you have opportunities to launch your own ventures. However, always remember who you are,” he added.
