Women inspired: Empowering women through entrepreneurship

AS society continues to recognise the importance of empowering women in social and economic progress, one organization, Women Inspired, is making strides in assisting women through entrepreneurship skills.
The organization was founded by author and motivational speaker Dr Nothando Moyo. She started the organization in Cyprus in 2015 and later established it in Zimbabwe in 2018.
In an interview, she stated that their goal is to equip women and marginalised individuals with the skills to create their own opportunities and become financially, socially, and spiritually stable.
“We want people to know how to make their own products and be able to grow our domestic economy. With the little that we can do, we hope to uplift the lives of people in the country,” she said.

She said that their organization offers people career guidance, business mentoring skills, brand building, and start-up guidance, among others, mainly focusing on various business and entrepreneurial skills.
She also said that one of their greatest achievements was the launch of the Women Inspired Empowerment Institute in partnership with Imperial Global Academy from the United Arab Emirates, which she said will also be set up in South Africa.
The organization also taught people, many of whom were women, how to make detergents during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of those people continued making and selling detergents, creating a reliable income for themselves post-Covid, something that Moyo said they are proud of as an organization.
Moyo said that the biggest challenge they have faced since establishing the organization was registering their academy, as it was too expensive. She called for a friendlier system that caters to new businesses.
“If you look at the registration process in other countries like South Africa and compare it to our system here in Zimbabwe, you will find that it is too expensive and is out of reach for many in the country.
“There are many young people with the ambition to start their own institutions, but with the way the system is set up, it is impossible for them to even register,” she said.
Looking ahead, she said they want to build a Women’s University in Binga and to build a rehabilitation centre to assist both women and girls coming out of abusive relationships, as well as to assist the marginalised.
