adminBulawayo’s Bob 88 Super Cup mobilisation committee spokesperson Butho Ngwenya said they would have a road show on Saturday.
This would take them from Mzilikazi all the way to Luveve and then to Magwegwe, Nkulumane, Nketa and Emganwini in a bid to mobilise fans to flock to Emagumeni in droves.
The two participating teams — DeMbare and the coalminers — would be in attendance at the road show thus fans will be able to interact with players from close range.
“We decided to have a road show so as to generate the maximum possible interest from soccer fans all around the suburbs of Bulawayo,” said Ngwenya.
This comes amid revelations that gate fees would be pegged at $2, although initially the event was said to be free.
Again the Bulawayo event would be unique in that it will have women’s soccer teams New Orleans FC taking on Inline FC as the main curtain-raisers.
Another curtain-raising match, the first match of the day, will see a combination of Chronicle and ZBC journalists taking on Bulawayo’s Zanu-PF youths.
The incorporation of the women’s event was the brainchild of Sibongile Sibanda, leader of Young Women in Leadership and Development in a bid to fight the marginalisation of the Girl Child.
“In all the major soccer events, the Girl Child is sidelined as if she is not part of the Zimbabwean people but in this instance I brought the idea to the Mobilisation Committee. I am glad it was accepted and we will be seeing our girls showcasing their talent in celebration of His Excellency’s birthday,” she said.
