The Zanu PF 7th National Women’s League elective conference roars into life tomorrow, with final touches being done to ensure a smooth event, while foreign delegates from sister political parties are expected to start arriving today.

The conference that will elect the league’s secretaries and their deputies from the 40 candidates who have been elected in their respective provinces, will be held at the Harare International Conference Centre and ends on Sunday.

The positions to be contested are from the deputy secretary for Women’s Affairs and below, while the Secretary will be appointed by the First Secretary of the party, President Mnangagwa.

Sister revolutionary parties in the region such as the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, Swapo of Namibia, Frelimo of Mozambique, Chama Cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania, diaspora districts, and other women’s organisations, Government Ministries, and women in business will grace the occasion.

President Mnangagwa is expected to officially open the conference on Friday, while his closing remarks will be on Saturday.

The conference will run under the theme, “Total Political, Social and Economic Empowerment for every woman by 2030”.

Zanu PF National Political Commissar Cde Mike Bimha yesterday said preparations for the conference were progressing well.

“All systems are now in place for the 7th National Women’s League elective conference,” he said. “Foreign delegates are expected to start arriving tomorrow (today).

“Invitations have been extended to regional and international sister parties, diaspora districts and other women’s organisations, Government Ministries, and women in business so that they can attend the event. Accreditation of delegates is expected to start today.”

Each province is expected to submit four candidates to contest the 40 positions available.

The Zanu PF National Women’s League elective conference is being held in the build-up to the party’s National People’s Congress scheduled for October.
