WORD of Life International Ministries yesterday conducted a clean-up campaign in Entumbane Suburb as a way of celebrating 25 years in ministry.
Speaking during the celebrations, Pastor Edgar Moyo from Word of Life International Ministries (Entumbane) said the clean-up campaign was running under the theme: “Affecting the community for Christ in every sphere”.
“We would like to thank our visionaries, especially Pastor Goodwill Shana and Maureen Shana for giving us an opportunity to be engaged with the members of the community. This church came into existence in 1990, so we have 25 years in the ministry and this campaign is aimed at keeping the suburb clean and to encourage the residents to avoid dumping waste illegally. We hope that what we are doing will build good relations between the church and the community,” he said.
Mr Mazwi Dlamini, the church administrator, said it was a positive development to see people cleaning the suburb.
“In our church, there are congregants from different suburbs but today all of them have united to make the suburb look clean. As we were doing our campaign we socialise with the residents in order to make our presence felt. We engaged the city council in this campaign and they have assisted us with the trucks to carry the waste out of the suburb,” Mr Dlamini said.
Entumbane residents, who spoke to Sunday News, expressed their happiness about the church’s contribution in the community.
“Everyone is happy with this development and we hope to see the churches continuing to assist us.
“The problem in this suburb is that people have a tendency of illegally dumping waste. The councillor has tried her best to encourage people to live in a good environment but we think there is still a need to have residents educated on environmental issues,” a resident, Mr Mathew Musara, said.
Meanwhile, the Apostolic Faith Mission church (North End Assembly) also held a clean-up campaign in the city’s central business district, as they continue to give back to the community.
The campaign focused on the areas surrounding Pick ’n Pay Hyper, where the church members swept and picked litter.
AFM pastor, Mrs Lilian Bwanya said they know that the city council is doing its job, but they just wanted to assist them, as they give back to the community.
“We are cleaning the city at the same time, advertising our revival that will be held at Amphitheatre from 8-12 July this year.
“The revival will be held under the theme: ‘The great outpouring of the Holy Spirit’. I will be ministering there, together with Pastor Lydia Tembo from AFM Makokoba assembly. Everyone is invited and the occasion will be graced by gospel singers like Mr Mathias Mhere and Baba Chiwaridzo,” said Pastor Bwanya.
