TRANSPORTING his boss’ explosives in a public transport last week earned a Penhalonga man $200 fine after he was arrested on board a commuter omnibus.In a case presided over by Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi, Terrence Kudinha (31,) pleaded guilty to carrying explosives in a public service vehicle.
He, however, pleaded for forgiveness from the court saying he did not know that it was an offence carrying explosives in a public vehicle.
“I was only running errands for my boss. Had I known that carrying explosives in public transport was an offence I would not have consented doing the task. I am humbly asking for this honourable court’s forgiveness,” said Kudinha.
The court heard that sometime last week, Kudinha who stays in Tsvingwe Township wanted to deliver the explosives to his boss’ (unidentified) client who resides in Old West section of Penhalonga.
“Kudinha boarded a commuter omnibus at around 7pm on his way to Old West. He, however, had an argument with the driver of the kombi, Timothy Marume. He was forced to disembark from the vehicle.
“Their heated argument attracted the attention of two police officers who were patrolling the area,” said State prosecutor, Mr Medson Karidza.
Seeing that he was carrying large sacks, the police officers immediately searched Kudinha and discovered that he had 28×0.9 and 27 MX explosives, which he intended to transport using public transport.
This led to Kudinha’s arrest.
Mr Mukwengi ordered Kudinha to pay a fine of $200 by February 25.
“I will give you time to raise the money. Defaulting in paying this money on the given date will see you spending 90 days behind bars,” said Mr Mukwengi.
