THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is training journalists from across the country to improve reportage on children’s rights with a special focus to the prevention of violence against minors which can hinder quality education.

Mazowe in Mashonaland Central is the venue for the workshop.

The objective of the workshop is to improve the reporting system on welfare of children and enhance safe learning environments for them.

It also aims to ensure that Zimbabwe shines in terms of responding to issues related to violence against children in around schools and through schools, homes and communities.

Bullying cases have been recorded in some of the schools in the country which tragically has led to loss of lives.

Accordingly, the Ministry hopes the media can include the voice of pupils on matters related to their welfare and safeguarding needs.

The workshop also targets making the public aware of the ministry’s safeguarding circulars, Guidance and Counselling materials and other packages to promote the welfare of children.

It aims to equip the media to improve the reportage on sensitive matters involving minors.
