WWS Group president, Munya Maraire, revealed this yesterday, saying they have been granted permission to promote the 2012 Manchester United Soccer Schools UK Residential Camps.
This will see young Zimbabwean soccer players from the ages of 8 to 18 attending the Manchester United Soccer School in the UK to train and develop their football skills.
The players will also get a chance to attend the Manchester United and Fulham match at Old Trafford at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season.
“Under this programme, these young soccer players will (also) get full professional coaching and learn to play the Manchester United way. They will train with state-of-the-art training equipment.
“The best skilled player will be invited to the World Skills event at Old Trafford while the other players will receive Nike kit (rain jacket, shorts, shirts, socks).
“They will also attend professional seminars, developing their game as a player,” Maraire said in a statement.
Tony Wright, a representative of the Manchester United Soccer Schools, said in the same statement: “Manchester United is a club with a long tradition of developing young footballers. From the Busby Babes in the 1950s to the class of ‘92 under Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has a proven track record of producing home-grown talent.
“Times may have changed but the philosophy remains the same; to nurture young talent and turn them into first team and hopefully international footballers.
“United’s dedication to youth development runs throughout the whole club. From the first team to the Academy teams to our Manchester United Soccer Schools, all the coaching staff at Manchester United share the same vision; to coach players to produce high quality attacking and exciting football.
“Our objective is for each individual to attain their optimum level of performance and benefit from being coached the ‘Manchester United Way’.
“All activity is directed to the developmental age of the participant.”
Wright said programmes will be challenging but achievable, guaranteeing that each child leaves their training camp with a raised self-esteem and most importantly having experienced fun and enjoyment.
“The Manchester United Soccer Schools team are expert coaches. They have all been through a rigorous qualification and selection process in order to guarantee the quality of the coaching delivered to each and every player.
“They have experience of coaching children of all nationalities and abilities and in 2011 over 2000 children from more than 80 different countries attended a Manchester United Soccer Schools residential camp.”
WWS Goup president Maraire added: “I think it is a great opportunity to work with the development programme of one of the greatest clubs in the world and this is just another stepping stone to greatness in terms of opening the eyes of our young talent in Africa.
“Being able to promote this programme across Africa is a great opportunity. Working with the world’s biggest sporting brand is a challenge my company is looking forward to. With God nothing is impossible.
“This is a great opportunity for players of all levels to learn from one of the best football clubs in the world and this will raise the level of football professionalism in the players and administrators who attend.”
Maraire said player registration for this programme is currently being done from 14192 Griffin Road at Gunhill in Harare.
He also said the camp is open to all soccer players who have an interest in improving their skills.
