AWARD-WINNING poet, Cynthia Mapando, is set to host her first Christian poetry event on July 27.
This follows her conversion from her family religion of Islam to Christianity.
This has prompted her to change her artistic work.
Cynthia told H-Metro that the aim of the event is to explore a subject, which is mostly shunned by many poets, and to make the younger generation realise that gospel can be spread using any medium of art.
“I was born in an Islamic family but I have now converted to Christianity by calling.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey for me as my family did not take it well but we journey on.
“Since then all my work has shifted from worldly to Christian poetry.
“Most of us, as writers, usually find it shameful to write about the word of God as it is believed that it doesn’t sell much but I’m willing to take the risk in my career.
“The event witnesses all things Christian, from artists and guests, and all ages can attend,” said Cynthia.
