ROYAL Writers, a group of local writers who met online, are set to launch their first anthology of poems titled, Galaxy of Poetic Voices on October 6 at the Cillas Conference Centre in Bulawayo.
The Royal Writers, a group of seven authors, admired each other’s works online and this saw them communicating with each other on a regular basis on the WhatsApp group platform they created last year.
The group is a collection of word smiths from various professions who decided to advance the rules of poetry.
The group is composed of Tsevetana Dhliwayo (26), Stephen Mupoto (34), Nodumo Mpofu (23), Seth Wesley (23), Chantell Tsitsi Murembeni (21), Charmaine Spiwe Muza (21) and Mufaro Luckson Pasipanodya (37).
The group of writers came up with the idea of writing an anthology to support the education system as a result of the curriculum change.
The book carries cross-cutting themes that embrace aspects to do with poverty, marriage, technology, religion, culture, love, joy and humanity among many other subjects. The anthology consists of 120 poems by seven poets from the Royal Writers with each poet contributing 17 poems. They composed one as a collective titled, The Royal Legendary Treatise.
One of the writers, Pasipanodya, said: “We want the book to be used as a set-book for either A or O-Level and even at universities.”
The writer also shared the vision of the collective writers saying: “We’re not limiting our progress to Zimbabwe only. We want to help talented writers to hone their skills and make a living from writing.”
