THE headline above is a message that must swell the heart of every patriot in our country.
What this means is that parents, relatives, guardians must, in addition to providing for their charges, endeavor to cultivate a better future for them developmentally instead of looking to the Government of the day to play that role because, as we must all realise a Government, any Government for that matter has not the wherewithal, call it the kind of universal presence over everything in a country in the same way that our Creator exercises omnipresence over everything that crawls on Earth.
As such, because we are no longer colonially governed by racist foreigners but are our own governors and future providers, we must therefore in-span ourselves into drawers of cultivators, call them initiatives destroying any weeds threatening to choke and render as failures young Zimbabweans who must be the future of our motherland developmentally.
A current case in point is the drugs and substance abuse by youths which threaten to render useless the very people on whose shoulders a brave Zimbabwean future lies.
Parents and leaders in communities obviously watch with their arms folded and their mouths shut as their children indulge in the anti-social activities in point because they obviously erroneously believe that the government of the day must intervene, although that government, our democratic government possesses God’s universal presence over everything in our motherland — a fatalistic belief indeed.
Self-governance and independence means that every patriotic Zimbabwean must play his/her role in ensuring that laws and regulations governing us are observed and that will only happen through exposure of criminal activities to law and order divisions of the government for eradication.
As things stand, parents, relatives and guardians in various communities obviously know any and all kinds of misdemeanour rearing their ugly heads in their communities but keep their eyes and mouths shut hence the spread of the criminal activities in point, which threaten to render useless youths who are supposed to be future pillars of our nation developmentally.
But hooray, hooray to community leaders in Masvingo province who have initiated training programs to keep youths away from drugs and substance abuse, as recently reported by a local radio station.
It is anyone’s guess that, equipped with relevant developmental skills youths in communities in that province will play a positive role in their lives and in the development of their communities upon completion of the courses they undertake.
If communities elsewhere in our country faced with young people indulging in the abuse of drugs and substances take a leaf from what is happening in Masvingo, our motherland will certainly zoom into brave new futures for all its people.
