Young farmers, miners in milestones

SEVERAL young people have registered milestones in different sectors such as farming, mining and manufacturing owing to the policies that have been initiated by the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa.

This comes as the country commemorated the National Youth Day on Wednesday.

In separate interviews, youths said most of them were proud owners of farms, mines and companies due to the policies that have been initiated by President Mnangagwa.

Some of the youths are contributing to the country’s food security through farming while others are part of those driving the mining sector and helping the country attain the US$12 billion economy.

Young Miners Foundation chairperson, Talent Chitepo, said the training he got from mining schools helped him drive his business.

“As Young miners, we have received training from Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe in partnership with the Zimbabwe School of Mines.

“The training on Fundamentals of small scale mine management has equipped us to take mining as a business. Over 120 young people were trained across the country,” said Mr Chitepo.

“We have also received training from Empower Bank on Financial inclusion. Empower Bank is also providing small loans to assist small business operations.”

He said the youth quota policy by the Government is critical in empowering youths in various economic sectors and governance.

“Formation of Youth desks is a good initiative that has seen youths participate economically and in governance issues.

“As the mining sector grows, my logistics and transport business has benefitted from Freight Exports for Chrome concentrate and lithium,” he said.

“We believe the establishment of a Youth Empowerment ministry shows the commitment of the Government to Youth issues and empowerment for young people.”
