Young karatekas shine in SA

KARATE Nomichi club left a mark at the Nomichi Children’s Championship held recently in Johannesburg, South Africa when bagging 30 medals.

The event catering for children from the age of 5 to 16, attracted participants from Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and hosts South Africa.

The Bulawayo-based club emerged second out of 11 clubs that participated with a total of 30 medals – five gold, nine silver and 16 bronze.

Sensei Greatmans Agrippa Sibanda, who is the chief instructor of Zimbabwe Karate Nomichi club saluted the young karatekas for their efforts.

“Their performance was just exceptional. At five years old, karatekas like Inhlinkosi Chatagwe, Akil Dhliwayo, and Montell Stoddart stood their ground to clinch silver and gold medals respectively.

“This is our third time taking part in this tournament…Last year we also excelled,” said Sibanda.
