YOUNG people are the drivers of Zimbabwe’s development across key sectors of the economy through innovation and effective project execution, Skills Audit and Development Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.

Speaking at the Chartered Institute of Project Managers Zimbabwe (CIPMZ) 2026 Young Project Leaders Awards held in Harare on Friday, Minister Muswere said the country’s development trajectory depended on the contributions of young professionals.

The awards were held under the theme ‘Innovating Today, Leading Tomorrow.’

“Zimbabwe is a nation rich in human capital.

“Our young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow — they are the drivers of progress today,” he said.

Minister Muswere said young professionals were spearheading transformative projects that were improving livelihoods and accelerating economic growth.

He said Government recognised that sustainable development was anchored on skills development, innovation and efficient project implementation.

“Across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, mining, ICT and energy, young professionals are delivering transformative projects that are improving livelihoods, strengthening institutions and accelerating economic growth,” he said.

“As Government, we recognise that the foundation of sustainable development lies in skills development, innovation and effective project execution.

“This is why the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at identifying skills gaps, aligning training with industry needs and building a workforce that is responsive to national priorities.”

Minister Muswere said the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) emphasised infrastructure development, industrialisation, digital transformation and human capital development.

He said young project leaders were critical in translating national policies into practical results.

“These pillars cannot be realised without capable, forward-thinking project leaders such as those we celebrate here tonight,” said Minister Muswere.

“You are at the forefront of translating policy into tangible outcomes. You are bridging the gap between vision and reality.”

The minister said investment confidence was strengthened by competent and innovative young professionals.

“By demonstrating competence, accountability and innovation, our young professionals are enhancing Zimbabwe’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

“You are not only managing projects — you are building trust, credibility and national pride.”

Minister Muswere said Vision 2030 could only be achieved through deliberate investment in capacity building and job creation.

He added that every successful project had a direct impact on employment creation and economic resilience.

“To achieve this, we must invest deliberately in capacity building. This means equipping our young people with technical skills, leadership capabilities and entrepreneurial mindsets.

“Every successful project you lead has a multiplier effect — it creates employment, stimulates local industries and contributes to economic resilience.”

He challenged young leaders to remain innovative, ethical and committed to national development.

Minister Muswere reiterated Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young professionals to thrive.

“I urge you to continue pushing boundaries. Embrace innovation. Uphold integrity. Lead with vision. And most importantly, remain committed to national development.

“As Government, we remain committed to creating an enabling environment where young professionals can thrive.

“We will continue to strengthen policy frameworks, support skills development initiatives and promote partnerships between the public and private sectors,” he said.
