The youngster who came in as a curtain- raiser put up a feisty performance stunning hundreds of revellers who had thronged Queens Sports Club for the much hyped gig.
The rap artiste came after a rather long performance by Vibes Stars Musica and not so thrilling performance by Otis Ngwabi.
Saturday Leisure caught up with the promising musician who revealed that he has been in the music scene for the past two years.
The 20-year-old Nashie was likened to urban grooves sensation Stunner by most revellers at the show.
The vibrant Nashie said he first cut his teeth into the music world in 2006 and has not looked back.
“I got into serious music business in 2006 after the late Andy Brown recognised me and invited me to his studio and since then I have established myself as both an artiste and a producer,” said Nashie who prefers to call himself Baba Wengoma.
Baba Wengoma was born in February 1992 and grew up in Harare. He attended Allan Wilson High School before proceeding to study film at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust where he graduated with a certificate.
He dropped his first single in 2009 before releasing his first album Rudo, Mari Nemarwadzo, which was accompanied by a video Everyday featuring the late veteran guitarist Andy Brown.
Baba Wengoma moved to Bulawayo in 2010 and has established a recording studio to nurture budding artistes in the city.
He said he was unfazed by the notion that Bulawayo artistes could not excel musically.
“You can be an artiste from Bulawayo but it does not mean that you cannot make it in the music industry. I am working to be an example that Bulawayo artistes can leave a mark in the music circles,” said Nashie.
He declared that he would soon be counted among the best musicians and said fans should look forward to his album to be released next month.
The young muso’s new album titled Emotions, features the already popular track Pregnancy.
His manager, Mzotshe Ndebele popularly known as DJ Mzoe said Nashie was a hard working artiste who had a bright future.
“Nashie is a hard working artiste and he always wants to produce quality works.
I foresee a bright future because he is a talented young man who is not after fame but quality music,” said DJ Mzoe.
Nashie says he is inspired by Zimbabwean RnB artiste Audius Mtawarira and dancehall veteran Winky Dee.
Besides being a music, Nashie has also authored a short film script Ndaifara which was aired on local radio stations and a documentary Fighting Against Poverty.
Nashie is not new to stage performances as well as curtain-raising. He proved his capability before Jamaican dancehall queens Brick and Lance and American RnB Akon in 2010.
He has also exchanged notes with local urban groovers Ngoni, Maskiri and Trevor Dongo.
