YOUNG Women’s Arts Festival organisers say everything is set for the event with a number of activities lined up.
The festival promotes women with disabilities through arts and culture.
A feminist organisation, Mwanasikana Wanhasi, will host the event on Friday.
The organisation, which is working with girls and young women across the country, has decided to host this festival in a bid to break the bias affecting women with disabilities.
“The festival will see young women with disabilities participating through arts, and culture, to influence policy and societal perception.
“For too long a time, people with disabilities have been excluded from decision-making processes due to various barriers and biases, so as Mwanasikana Wanhasi we are putting young women’s voices at the forefront so as to make sure their concerns are addressed,” said Diana Miti, Mwanasikana Wanhasi programmes officer.
Miti said the organisation was calling for young women, with disabilities, who are interested in the arts and culture, to come on board, and make the festival a reality.
“Mwanasikana Wanhasi is hosting this activity under our Her Access Project, which we are implementing with support from the Urgent Action Fund.
“Right now, we have issued a call for expression of interest to all young women who are interested to come and join us to make this event a memorable one.
“This will also help them influence perception and policy towards their full participation in decision making,” added Miti.
Attendees will have a chance to showcase their different arts and culture talents on the day.
The event will be attended by other civil organisations and government officials will be among the speakers, the programmes officer has said.
“We will also have guest performers who will be announced on the day,” said Miti.
