Your place of power

Transformation with Mildred

Life is just so full of happenings. From the moment we are born, things start to unfold. Situations arise and circumstances prevail, giving us what we may term, life experiences.

Although in the general scheme of things, everything happens for us and for our greatest good, sometimes when we go through challenging and provoking situations, we react instinctively.

Strong emotions like anger and hurt almost instantly guide our words and actions.

However, in so doing, we often lose the benefit that we were supposed to get out of the experience.

Key to note also, is that life has no standard formula, things just happen whether we like them to or not and whether we are nice people or not. An anonymous author once said that expecting life to be good to you because you are a good person is like expecting a jungle lion not to eat you because you are a vegetarian.

The baseline is what happens to you is not as much important as what you do about what happens.

Life always throws at us curve balls in the form of bothersome situations. According to scientific researches, this often triggers the release of stress hormones, placing the body in fight or flight mode.

This is also known as a survival mode, and it eradicates any form of logical reasoning. It is like a bell is ringing and red warning lights are flashing: Danger! Take action to survive! In such scenarios, we often react impulsively; some retort or insult, some slap or punch, while some flee or hide. Although this may provide instant, short-term relief, reacting this way can have negatively impactful results that disempower us from realising our destiny.

The good thing, however, is that every one of us has within their reach, the power to be in control over any situation.

If something upsets you, you can choose to stay calm, maintaining your inner peace. Remember, being peaceful does not mean the absence of troubles or upsetting situations but being calm in spite of them.

Admittedly, the ability to remain calm when everything in you is screaming, pushing you to react, is not an easy task.

It takes much practice to access your inner place of power that enables you to stay calm, poised and unflustered in the face of such negative situations.

According to Doctor Joe Dispenza, a Researcher and Medical Expert in neuroscience, epigenetics and human potential, when you attain this level of inner peace and calmness despite what’s thrown at you, you won’t in turn get thrown off balance.

Instead, you are enabled to approach problems with a clear and level head, leading to more effective solutions. You are empowered to move through life with grace and ease, thus traversing beyond barriers.

Here are a few techniques that can help you to access your inner place of power so that you remain unflappable;
Deep breathing

Taking slow, deep breaths, in, through the nose and out through your mouth helps to calm your nerves. When you start to feel the emotional charge, conscious breathing often interrupts the process, thus short-circuiting the emotional response.

Grounding technique

Focus on your five senses to bring yourself back to the present moment. Notice the sensation of your feet on the ground, the sounds around you, the feeling of air on your skin, etc. Also acknowledge and accept your inner feelings without any judgment.

Visualisation

Imagine yourself in a peaceful, safe place. Visualise a bright warm light filling your whole body.
Repeat Affirmations and Mantras

Continuously repeat phrases like; I am strong and capable, I can handle this, I am enough, etc. This helps calm your mind and focus your attention.

Remember that place of ultimate power is within you. No matter what happens, you have the ability to choose how to respond. Do not get caught up in the narratives of situations.

From today, I challenge you to reframe all the negative moments in your life and see them as opportunities to practice accessing your “Place of Power.”
