MORE than 400 youths in Bulawayo will get food parcels from a Presidential donation scheme earmarked to cushion their household sustenance during the national Covid-19 lockdown.

The young beneficiaries from six wards under Area Five were the first to receive the kind gesture from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s First Secretary. The food parcels, mainly rice packs, were handed over to beneficiaries by the District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) chairman for Area five Comrade Mnothisi Nsingo.

Beneficiaries were from Ward 4 at Leeside, Ward 26 (Emganwini), Ward 24 (Nketa), Ward 5 (Burnside), Hillside and Ward 6 (Bellevue and parts of Montrose).

Cde Nsingo, in an interview on the sidelines on the handover said the President’s gesture shows that he has not forgotten the young people of Bulawayo at a time when the nation is working hard to contain the spread nof Covid-19. The country went under lockdown on March 30.

“We are grateful to our President for the show of goodwill that he has extended to the youths. Being aware that the youths have abided to the national lockdown, the President has shown that he is caring leader, one who knows that at a time like this, giving to those without is of paramount importance,” he said.

Cde Nsingo highlighted that the programme seeks to ensure that the youths are well taken of, as the country pulls through one of its worst times owing to the novel Covid-19 disease.
