THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), in conjunction with the Association of Local Authorities, is conducting a three-day training programme for council integrity committees in Matabeleland South Province.
Training, which began on Sunday, concludes today, with participants expected to take pledges as a commitment to uphold integrity in their operations.
The programme targets integrity committees from Insiza, Umzingwane, Beitbridge, and Gwanda local authorities. Last week, similar training was conducted for integrity committees from Mangwe, Bulilima, and Matobo local authorities. The committees were grouped into two clusters for the training sessions.
Integrity committees are composed of council workers and are chaired by the council’s internal auditor. Other stakeholders, such as councillors, are also participating in the training.
The initiative aligns with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, launched by President Mnangagwa approximately four years ago. Each of the seven local authorities in the province has an integrity policy that mandates the establishment of an integrity committee to combat and prevent corruption within the organisation.
The training aims to equip integrity committees with the necessary skills to effectively fight and prevent corruption. Participants are being trained on how to develop work plans for their programmes throughout the year and how to implement these programmes effectively.
Additionally, the integrity committees will be equipped with skills to identify potential risks that could affect local authorities during their operations.
