Bank of Namibia launches N$60 commemorative banknote in honour of late President Dr Hage Geingob

THE Bank of Namibia has launched a N$60 commemorative banknote in honour of the late President Dr Hage Geingob, recognising his 60 years of dedicated service to Namibia’s independence, democracy, and socio-economic progress

Dr Geingob, who passed away in 2024 at Lady Pohamba Hospital, served as Namibia’s president from 2015 and was in his second and final term in office.

In a statement, the Bank of Namibia announced that the commemorative banknotes will be available at commercial bank branches nationwide starting today.

“The Bank of Namibia is proud to announce that the Dr Hage G Geingob N$60 commemorative banknote has officially entered circulation today. Issued by the Governor, Mr Johannes Gawaxab, at Khomasdal Grove Mall, this special edition note pays tribute to the late Dr Hage G Geingob, honouring his 60 years of dedicated service to Namibia’s independence, democracy, and socio-economic progress,” the bank said.The bank added, “The N$60 banknote will be available at commercial bank branches nationwide from tomorrow, 18 March 2025. Due to its limited issuance, the banknote will not be dispensed via ATMs but can be obtained over the counter at commercial banking halls.”
