A 39-YEAR-OLD Zaka woman allegedly fatally struck her father with a log on Monday after he came naked into a room in which she and her mother were sleeping.

Chief Nhema confirmed the death of Tondofa Muchauki, 74, of Runetsa Village.

He said the man had threatened to beat up his daughter and she fatally attacked him.

“It is said the woman picked up a log outside, apparently in self defence because the father is the one who had threatened to beat her up using a log,” said Chief Nhema.

A villager, Aaron Chenhanga, said on the fateful day, Tondofa arrived home drunk and found his wife and daughter sleeping in the kitchen.

“On Sunday at around 9PM, Tondofa arrived home from a beer drink. Upon arrival he found his wife, Erina Mavala, 54, and daughter, Elizabeth Muchauki, sleeping in the kitchen. The two were, however, taken aback by Tondofa who appeared at the kitchen door without putting on anything on his body apart from red underwear,” said Chenhanga.

“This did not go down well with the two and Elizabeth confronted Tondofa, asking him why he was coming to them in the nude.”

He said Tondofa, who was staggering, reached for a log, intending to strike his daughter.

“Sensing danger, Elizabeth stormed out of the kitchen and picked her own log. She struck Tondofa twice on the back and once on the head leaving him bleeding profusely. He sustained a deep cut above the right eye,” added Chenhanga.

Mavala called a neighbour, Rodrick Mhere, 45 who rendered first aid and washed blood from Tondofa’s face.

The neighbour assisted him into his bedroom and left.

Later, his wife checked on him but found his body at the door step.

“Mavala informed her son, Providence Muchauki who reported the matter at Zaka Police leading to Elizabeth’s arrest. The body was taken to Ndanga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem,” said Chenhanga.

Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa could not immediately comment on the case.
