Zanu PF has adopted and endorsed the 7th Zanu PF National Youth League conference resolutions and the organ’s newly elected executive.
Newly-elected National Youth League Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Phinias Muriva Makone presented the resolutions.
The Youth League endorsed President Mnangagwa as the sole Presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 harmonised elections in its resolutions.
The youth noted and were encouraged by the decision by President Mnangagwa to elevate members of the outgoing Youth League National executive to become Ex-Officio members of the Central Committee.
The youth, Cde Makone said, were encouraged by the appointment of youths into strategic positions such as Cabinet and their important contribution to national policy.
Cde Makone said the Youth League resolved that it steps up ongoing efforts to employ modern, robust, innovative and truthful mobilisation programmes that are directed by a proper scientific research that guides on factual growth of its membership from cell to national level.
Some of the resolutions passed were to urge the Government to accelerate reinstitution of compulsory National Youth Service and make it a pre-qualification for enrolment into tertiary education and absorption for employment into public service, with the purpose of inculcating the values of patriotism, nationhood, volunteerism, among others.
Cde Makombe said the youth vocational skilling and training for enterprise be enhanced and resources be availed to support such employment creation initiatives, as well as education and skills employment.
Another resolution that was endorsed was that the party enjoins the Government to prioritise employment of patriotic youths from the party in order to curb industrial action by retrogressive members of the Public Service.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde John Paradza said his major task was to mobilise youths across the country to vote for the ruling party in the 2023 harmonised elections.
Zanu PF is working towards mobilising five million votes to ensure a resounding victory in the 2023 harmonised elections.
Cde Paradza noted that during the conference, President Mnangagwa, who is the First Secretary of the party, challenged the new executive to make the party attractive to lure young people to join.
“Our major task as the new executive is to mobilise youth at universities, colleges, and those who are 18 years to make sure they join the party,” said Cde Paradza. “They should also register to vote for the coming elections. We need to mobilise the youth to ensure they are registered voters.”
Cde Paradza said the youth should make use of economic policies availed by the Second Republic to ensure they were empowered.
“We also ensure the 500 hectares’ pieces of land per province are availed to the youth to ensure the land is used for productive purposes,” he said.
He thanked the outgoing executive led by outgoing acting deputy secretary Cde Tendai Chirau for advancing the interest of the youth.
“They make our job easier,” said Cde Paradza. “We need to follow their footsteps to achieve our goals.”
Cde Chirau said efforts to empower the youth were made during their tenure, but more needed to be done by the incoming leadership.
He thanked President Mnangagwa and his entire team for putting in place policies that advanced the interest of the youth.
Cde Chirau warned the youth against drug abuse.
