ZANU PF has amplified its voice against the ongoing genocide in Palestine, which has seen more than 75 000 innocent Palestinians killed directly and indirectly by Isaeli forces.
Speaking at the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in Harare yesterday, Zanu PF secretary for external affairs Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said Zimbabwe was committed to supporting Palestine against the Israeli genocide.
The celebrations were organised by the embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe in collaboration with Women Writers Support Network and Chenura Trust.
This event marked the annual observance of the resolution on the partition of Palestine, emphasising the urgent need for the international community to address the unresolved question of Palestine.
Cde Mumbengegwi said no oppressor would succeed and Palestine would gain its independence.
“Every year we celebrate this day with the people of Palestine, but this year it is different in the sense that the international community is witnessing the declared genocide to the Palestinian people,” he said.
“We in Zimbabwe went through the same struggle for liberation and we know how an enemy is brutal. When we resisted against that occupation, we were branded terrorists and the occupiers misled the world that they were the victims and that is what we are witnessing today.
“The Palestinian people have the right to resist every occupation. International Humanitarian Law does not allow it, but Israel is doing so because they have allowed it.”
Cde Mumbengegwi said their hearts bled because Zimbabwe was not new to the tortures and massacres.
“They can kill, torture and imprison the Palestinians but they cannot kill the idea,” he said. “No oppressors have succeeded in history and we are gathered here today to express our commitment and solidarity with the people of Palestine.”
Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri said a cumulative of 75 000 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli forces in the ongoing genocide in their country.
Dr Almassri said Israeli forces were also destroying their infrastructure, mostly hospitals and churches.
“Israeli forces want to remove the Palestinian identity on the global map and they are being supported by the Americans and some colonial powers,” he said. “Israel is terrorising the Palestinian right for struggling against the occupation as enshrined in the UN Charter.”
Dr Almassri reiterated Palestine’s call against the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe is a victim of double standards just like Palestine and we highly appreciate the solidarity from Zimbabwe and its Government to the people of Palestine. Therefore, we stand in solidarity with Zimbabwe against the economic sanctions,” he said.
The Palestinian people are yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the United Nations General Assembly.
