THE 19th Zanu-PF National People’s Conference has been described as a huge success with various provinces that followed proceedings virtually saying they were now poised at ensuring a resounding success for the party in the 2023 elections.
Owing to Covid-19 restrictions this year’s conference was a hybrid event that saw a few delegates attending the main ceremony at the Bindura University of Science Education in Mashonaland Central while the rest of the delegates followed proceedings virtually from various venues in their provinces.
In Bulawayo, delegates followed proceedings from the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair’s Hall Two.
Speaking after the conference, the ruling party’s Bulawayo provincial interim chairperson, Cde Obert Msindo said they were happy with the outcome of the conference noting that despite it being the first conference in a hybrid format it had been a resounding success.
“The conference was a resounding success, well organised even the resolutions we made will solve a lot of things in the country, we adopted them and we are very excited. What we saw is that party cadres were very organised and followed the conference steadily.
“We also heard the speech from the President, which was a good speech where he encouraged us to unite and foster development and the prosperity of the party,” said Cde Msindo.
Minister of State for Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Judith Ncube also commended delegates from the province revealing that the party leadership had noted the manner in which the delegates in Bulawayo had conducted themselves.
“I would like to especially thank party members in Bulawayo, we did not embarrass our President, we might have problems here and there but we respected the party, we respected President Mnangagwa and had quite a successful conference,” said Cde Ncube.
In Matabeleland South the conference delegates followed proceedings from Mzingwane High School in Esigodini with the province’s acting chairperson Cde Never Khanye saying they were satisfied with the event and its resolutions.
He said the conference was a total success.
“My evaluation of the conference in the province is that it was hundred percent successful. The attendance was encouraging and quite orderly. We are also happy with the resolutions that the party came up with because they were aimed at strengthening the party and spur it towards the realisation of vision 2030,” said Cde Khanye.
He said it was gratifying to note that the party was on course in fulfilling the 2018 election manifesto.
In Matabeleland North, the delegates followed the proceeding virtually from Lupane State University Main Campus.
Soon after presentation of the conference’s resolutions the party chairman for Matabeleland North Cde Richard Moyo rose to second the motion.
He commended party members for being disciplined and diligently following proceedings to the end. The People’s Conference benefitted Lupane’s business community and residents in general. The usually quiet provincial capital came alive with increase in visitors and business for vendors and shops.
Minister Moyo said: “Locals have benefitted as they have been supplying food and accommodation facilities for those who may have wanted to stay outside. Even tourism benefitted from these three days because some were booked at lodges in the developing provincial capital.”
In the Midlands Province, the National People’s Conference ended on a high note with the province declaring it’s unwavering support and commitment to the ruling party under the astute leadership of President Mnangagwa.
A total of 350 delegates from the province’s eight administrative districts converged on Midlands State University (MSU) where they followed the conference virtually.
Delegates said they were anticipating a bright future for the country with President Mnangagwa at the helm of the party and Government.
Midlands provincial chairperson Engineer Daniel Mackenzie Ncube said he was happy that the provincial delegates came in their numbers to participate in the National People’s Conference albeit virtually.
The party’s provincial leadership, he said, denounced all forms of factionalism within the province while urging everyone to rally behind the candidature of President Mnangagwa as the sole party’s presidential candidate come 2023.
“This has been a successful conference and as Midlands Province, we feel highly honoured to have been part of it. President Mnangagwa remains our sole Presidential candidate for 2023 harmonised elections.
“There is no other alternative on that endorsement,” said Eng Mackenzie Ncube.
He reiterated that unity was key for the party to win the 2023 elections.
