Zanu-PF delegation to assess progress on conference preparations

party’s 11th National People’s Conference.
The conference runs from December 6-10 under the theme “Defend national sovereignty, consolidate indigenisation and economic empowerment”.
Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo would lead the delegation.

Other members of the delegation include political commissar Cde Webster Shamu, secretary for legal affairs Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, Cde Sydney Sekeramayi (national security), deputy treasurer Cde Charles Tavengwa and Cde Rugare Gumbo, the party spokesperson.

He said the delegation would finalise preparations for the annual event including accommodation and the venue.
Over 6 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference.
“The national people’s conference will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds and we are finalising the programme,” he said.

Cde Gumbo last week said the conference would prepare the party for the 2012 polls.
“It is a crucial conference as it would come up with the necessary programmes and preparations for the upcoming elections. It will define how the party will prepare itself for the elections.”
President Mugabe has indicated that the elections would be held not later than March next year.

Zanu-PF held its last conference in Mutare where a number of resolutions were made, including the holding of elections this year and the speeding up of black economic empowerment.
Delays in the writing of the new national constitution by Copac have made it impossible for elections this year.
Zanu-PF has, however, started the empowerment programmes including the Community Share Ownership Trusts.

Under the scheme companies would cede shares to local communities, bringing direct benefits to the people.
Recently, Zimplats gave 10 percent shares under the Chegutu-Mhondoro-Ngezi-Zvimba share ownership trust that was launched by President Mugabe.
The MDC-T is strongly opposed to the empowerment programme but Zanu-PF has vowed to press ahead with the scheme.

Meanwhile, the Harare province on Tuesday launched a fundraising campaign to mobilise funds for the Bulawayo conference.
Each of the party’s 10 provinces is expected to raise US$150 000.

Zanu-PF Harare provincial national fundraising chairperson, Cde Noah Mangondo, said the party was seeking assistance from well-wishers and possible donors to sponsor the event.
“We are appealing to potential donors to participate in fundraising for the upcoming event, which is an event for the whole nation.”

Cde Mangondo said a number of activities were set for the province to meet the target.
He urged companies and other organisations to participate in the fundraising programme to meet the required figure.

Cde Mangondo said there was going to be a fundraising dinner at the HICC.
“Those who want to donate cannot be limited since no money is too little or too big, any amount is welcome,” he said.
Cde Mangondo expressed optimism that the conference would be a success.
