RULING party, Zanu-PF, will hold primary elections on Saturday to nominate a suitable candidate to represent the party in the forthcoming by-election for Insiza North National Assembly seat, which fell vacant following the recent death of Cde Farai Taruvinga.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial chairman, Cde Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, yesterday announced candidates who are vying for the post and affirmed their readiness to win back the constituency.

Taruvinga died aged 53 at his family home in Hillside suburb, Bulawayo after battling cancer.
Speaking after the meeting to announce the candidates at Insiza District Zanu-PF office, Cde Ndlovu said the primary election was set for Saturday.

“I came to interact with the leadership from Insiza District but with a specific focus on Insiza North constituency and as you know we lost our member Cde Farai Taruvinga, may his soul rest in peace. He was the Member of Parliament for this constituency,” he said.

“As the party we are already preparing for the by-election and we are not leaving anything to chance. We want to continue with the work that Zanu-PF was doing for the people of Insiza North and we have begun the process of selecting our candidates.”
Cde Ndlovu said the party’s National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha was assigned to give guidance to the constituency on the road to the primary elections, which will be held on Saturday.

He said yesterday’s meeting was fruitful and expressed satisfaction with the list of candidates.
“We will contest as a family and in a friendly manner. All candidates will move together with the provincial leadership and they will be given opportunity to address the people as they campaign,” said Cde Ndlovu.

The candidates are Cde Qhubani Moyo (Ward 22), Cde Clever Sibanda (Ward 20), Cde Delani Moyo (Ward 13), Cde Moses Langa (Ward 14), Cde Sifiso Mpofu (Ward 19), Cde Nkosana Mthunzi (Ward 19), Cde Ernest Ncube (Ward 17), Cde Davison Moyo (Ward 21) and Cde Lindelwe Ndlovu (Ward 14). In attendance at yesterday’s meeting was Politburo member Cde Esther Nyathi, Central Committee member Cde Andrew Langa, provincial political commissar Cde Washington Nkomo and District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) chairman Cde Spare Sithole, among other provincial members.
