Zanu PF, Govt urged to cooperate on development

THE Permanent Secretary for Presidential Affairs in the Office of the President and Cabinet Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti yesterday addressed a joint sitting of Government and the ruling Zanu PF party leadership in Mashonaland West province.

Eng Muguti outlined the operating framework between ZANU PF leadership and Government, saying development hinged on coordination and cooperation between the two entities.

He said provinces should formulate policies and strategies that grow their economies and President Mnangagwa has directed that all provinces should be able to accurately measure their Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“As the President is always emphasising, the country is developed by its own people and as provinces you are expected to work to raise your own economies,” he said.

“This is the planning as reflected in our development blueprints, starting from the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and the forthcoming NDS2 leading up to 2030.”

The ruling party leadership, said Eng Muguti, should call the provincial minister and her provincial Government heads to explain progress in the implementation of resolutions of the party.

Provinces would now be expected to provide resolutions that emanate from regular interaction between the party and the Government aimed at addressing issues in  communities.

“Each province has its peculiar challenges, which require localised interventions. Some provinces like Manicaland may have challenges with smuggling for example and they are coming up with resolutions to address the challenges at that level,” he said.

The resolutions identify challenges that each province is facing and how it could be addressed to promote economic growth.

Provinces are now expected to prepare their Provincial Economic Development Plans (PEDP) covering the period 2026 to 2030.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said regular review of the PEDP was key in ensuring that it remained relevant to evolving situations in the province.

Government, she said, was subservient to the ruling party and was there to implement its resolutions and election manifesto.

“Let us all work together to ensure the successful implementation of these resolutions, which will ultimately benefit the people of Zimbabwe,” Minister Chombo said.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chair Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka called for close cooperation and collaboration between Government and the party in the province.
