Zanu-PF Hwedza primary poll date set

Zanu-PF will conduct primary elections this Wednesday to select a candidate to represent the revolutionary party in Hwedza North parliamentary constituency by-election that was left vacant following the death of Cde Simon Musanhu in January this year.

President Mugabe has set May 5, 2015 for the by-election while the nomination court will sit on March 16, 2015 to replace Cde Musanhu, who was Environment, Water and Climate Deputy Minister.

The revolutionary party has since appointed Politburo members Cde Omega Hungwe and Cde George Rutanhire to superintend over the primary polls.

At least nine candidates have submitted their curriculum vitaes and the national commissariat will meet today to finalise the list submitted by the provincial election directorate. Cde Hungwe said they have started preparing for the primary election for Hwedza.

“We are meeting (today) to look at the names compiled by Mashonaland East provincial election directorate. We will consider their list, look at those that they have accepted and those that they disqualified.

“We want also to look at the basis for such disqualification if there are any candidates that had been left out and whether it is consistent with the party guidelines,” said Cde Hungwe.

She said the guiding principle was that a person should have a track record in the party. Zanu-PF Mashonaland East acting provincial chairperson Cde Aeneas Chigwedere said the provincial co-ordinating committee met at the weekend to consider CVs submitted by aspiring can- didates.

“We met on Saturday to consider CVs for aspiring candidates. There were nine CVs and we went through and accepted seven.

“We have submitted the list to the national election directorate for their consideration,” said Cde Chigwedere.

Those that had submitted CVs include Engineer Taengwa Parehwa, Apolonia Munzverengi, Faith Chisango, Nathan Matemera, Brian Nyaguse, Rodwell Zinyemba, David Musabayana and Obert Mutema.

The preparations for Hwedza North by-elections come as political parties prepare to battle it out in Mount Darwin West and Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituencies to be held on March 27.

Five candidates vying for the seat in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe are Cde Auxilia Mnangagwa (Zanu-PF), Ganzamoyo Dewah (Good People’s Movement), Rumbidzai Abigirl Musambasi (Transform Zimbabwe), Munashe Mutodza (National Constitutional Assembly) and Wilbroad Chawaona Kanoti (independent).

Mt Darwin West constituency will be contested by Kenard Fungai (Transform Zimbabwe), Reuben Mafigu (National Constitutional Assembly), Cyril Muradzi (Freedom Front) and Barnwell Seremwe (Zanu-PF).
