Masvingo Governor, Senator Josaya Hungwe was appointed the committee’s chairman. In a letter addressed to committee members, the committee’s secretary Cde Ted Muzorodza, said the committee will work in accordance with the Zanu-PF constitution and the laws of the country.
“The committee shall undertake a broad review of land problems and allocation; identify and make inventory of qualifying farms and businesses to be indigenised; identify and make an inventory of affected communities and beneficiaries throughout Masvingo province,” he said.
Cde Muzorodza said the committee will determine basic causes of land conflicts and disputes to come up with ways of resolving them. At its meeting held on January 20, the committee expressed gratitude to the party’s Masvingo PCC’s vision to avert imminent threat to the party’s traditional spirit of cooperative engagement and governance.
The committee received reports from its members on fraudulent land allocation and fronting of people in Chiredzi and Masvingo districts. It heard that there was concern over displacement of people in the area around the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam. “The foregoing issues were considered to be of grave concern by the committee, hence the urgent need for a speedy resolution that would bring normalcy and halt any more negative impact on
Masvingo Province communities,” reads part of the minutes of the meeting.
