THE Zanu-PF Matabeleland North province has intensified its cell building drive despite the effects of Covid-19 which had slowed down the process.

A cell is the smallest structure in Zanu-PF and is made up of 50 members.

Matabeleland North is targeting to build 5 000 cells.

The ruling party rolled out the cell building exercise last month.

In Matabeleland North, the process has been going on well, although slowly because of Covid-19 induced lockdown.

Faced with restrictions on physical gatherings, the party adopted a door-to-door approach where teams are visiting communities spreading the Zanu-PF ideology and registering cells.

The party’s provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo said: “We had been given a month and the deadline was 12 July. We have a PCC (Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting) next week to mop-up and as we speak all districts are busy on the ground and submitting reports on the exercise. That’s what the party is doing countrywide and as Matabeleland North we are busy and we have given District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairs the task to do that and provincial members to supervise districts.”

Cde Moyo, who is also Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution said Covid-19 had affected the exercise as no meetings can be held.

In Hwange, district which has 32 party districts, 305 cells have been established out of a target of 800.

Hwange West is leading with 163 cells out of 250, followed by Hwange Central with 78 out of 225 while Hwange East has 64 out of 325.-@ncubeleon
