The meeting was attended by chairmen of 12 party districts in Mhondoro-Mubaira constituency.
The meeting was a follow up to the issues raised by chiefs and villagers to Vice President Joice Mujuru during last weekend’s appointment of Chief Nherera as patron of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe.
“Elections should never divide us. This is the time we need to be a family as we go towards the general elections which maybe anytime from now,” he said.
“To those who lose in the elections, we are the same people at the end of the day and should concentrate on programmes that strengthen the party. Party members should not also be divided by the elections (provincial).”
“What we just need is a representative who respects the will of the people, with the province at heart.”
The elections, to be held this weekend, would choose a substantive provincial chairman to fill in the post left by Cde Robert Sikanyika, who died last year.
Cde Nguni, who is also Minister of State in Vice President Mujuru’s office, said the Presidential Inputs programme had gone well in the district.
“The only challenge was that the inputs were few but they have gone a long way in assisting the vulnerable.
“There were allegations of corruption but I think it was a matter of quantity and we had to devise a formula to see that those in needy benefit.
“It is our hope that in future disbursements all people will benefit,” he said.
Turning to the Constituency Development Fund, Cde Nguni said they were now waiting for the 2011 Government allocation.
“What we have used is the 2010 money, which we got last year. As for 2011, we are still waiting and it is our hope that the money will come soon to benefit the villagers.
I am happy the money was used wisely and we sent our accounts to the relevant ministry for audits and everyone is satisfied with the way the money was used,” he said.
He challenged the district chairpersons to urge their members to register as voters.
“We understand your calls to have district offices at Mubaira instead of Chegutu but ways are being found to address the challenges.
“The party will give necessary assistance to those willing to register as voters ahead of the elections,” he said.
