Mudzi North legislator, Cde Newton Kachepa, yesterday confirmed that Cde Eric Katiza died at Mutoko remand yesterday morning.
Cde Katiza was a teacher at Chimukoko Primary School in Mudzi. His age could not be ascertained.
“He collapsed and died around 6am today in remand prison,” Cde Kachepa said.
“He was already sick from elephantiasis and we suspect that is what he died from. We are worried that he was incarcerated and they have been denied bail despite the fact that he was sick.”

Other Zanu-PF members in remand are Cdes David Chimukoko, Gratiano Kazingizi, Perkins Karikoga, Biggie Office, Bob Raphael and Phillip Katsande. Sources in Zanu-PF allege that MDC-T supporters, including the late Magura provoked Zanu-PF members who were holding a development meeting at the Chief’s hall.
It is understood that the MDC-T activists denigrated President Mugabe and attacked Zanu-PF members attending the meeting.
“The MDC-T members ignored police instructions and advanced on Zanu-PF members and continued attacking them using catapults, stones and logs.
“After noticing that they had seriously injured Zanu-PF members, MDC-T’s Kubvoruno Choga ordered his members, including women to run to the waiting vehicle to flee from the scene.
“In the ensuing commotion, Goronga, a ward chairman joined the scramble for the truck and Cephas Magura fell headlong just after 500 metres as he tried to jump and secure a place in the vehicle which was already full and in motion,” said a source.
