ZANU-PF will soon make a decision on how to deal with expelled National Assembly candidates who won in the just ended July 31 elections which was resoundingly won by the revolutionary party. Renowned Harare lawyer, Mr Jonathan Samukange, won Mudzi South National Assembly constituency as an independent after he was disqualified by the party while Dr Munyaradzi Kereke, former advisor to Reserve Bank Bank Governor, won in Bikita East on a Zanu-PF ticket ahead of the party’s official candidate, Cde Elias Musakwa. The decision would be whether to re-admit them into the party or not accepting their election victory.
In an interview yesterday, Zanu-PF spokesperson, Cde Rugare Gumbo, said the duo remained expelled from the party until a decision has been made rescinding it should there be a need to do so. “The position as of now is that they remain expelled from the part for defying lawful directive, but now that they have won, the party will have to meet to discuss the issue on what can be done,” said Cde Gumbo.
He said it was critical for party cadres to take heed of party directives at all times particularly during elections.
“You do not defy a party directive if you are a party cadre. We have not sat down as a party to decide but we will meet soon.”
