ZANU PF has reaffirmed its unwavering diplomatic alignment with Beijing, saying it fully backs China over the Taiwan issue and condemning external interference in Chinese domestic affairs.
The statement was delivered on Wednesday by ZANU PF National Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, who is representing the ruling party on behalf of secretary-general Advocate Jacob Mudenda, at the Communist Party of China (CPC) Dialogue with the Six Sister Parties of Southern Africa, in Tanzania.
In the statement, the party said: “Zimbabwe has always firmly adhered to the One-China principle, resolutely supported China in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and development interests, fully backed China’s efforts to realise complete national reunification, resolutely defended China’s territorial integrity, and firmly opposed all forms of ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities and interference by external forces.”
The remarks underscore Zimbabwe’s long-standing foreign policy stance, which aligns with Beijing’s core interests.
In his meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing last September, after attending China’s commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of Beijing’s victory in World War 2, President Mnangagwa reaffirmed that Zimbabwe will continue to adhere to the One-China principle.
53 out of 54 African nations stand by the One-China policy, recognising Taiwan as an inalienable part of China. Eswatini is the sole African nation maintaining diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
The dialogue in Tanzania serves as a key platform for ideological and economic cooperation between the CPC and former liberation movements in southern Africa, with Zimbabwe positioned as one of Beijing’s most consistent allies on the continent.
ZANU PF (Zimbabwe), CCM (Tanzania), ANC (South Africa), SWAPO (Namibia), FRELIMO (Mozambique), and MPLA (Angola) are attending the strategic meetings in Tanzania with the CPC.
