adminZANU-PF has retained the Kwekwe urban Ward 11 council seat after its candidate Cde Lemson Dube was the only person who filed his nomination papers at the nomination court sitting in the city of Kwekwe yesterday.
The Kwekwe urban seat was left vacant after Cde Wongainashe Mpereri was voted Member of Parliament for Mbizo Constituency during the by-elections held last month.
Mbizo constituency was declared vacant following the withdrawal of MDC Renewal member Mr Settlement Chikwinya from Parliament together with 20 other former MDC-T members who defected to the Tendai Biti-led splinter party.
Zanu-PF has seven council seats in Kwekwe council, out of 14 wards.
Zanu-PF Midlands spokesperson Cde Cornelius Mpereri said the revolutionary party had consolidated its dominance in the province after bagging the seat uncontested in the former MDC-T stronghold.
He said the revolutionary party would now focus on implementing the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) economic blueprint.
“We are happy that we retained the Mbizo ward 11 council seat.
“The seat was left vacant when the erstwhile councillor, Cde Wongainashe Mpereri became a member of parliament for Mbizo constituency which was left vacant following the withdrawal of former MDC-T member, Mr Settlement Chikwinya.
“As a party, we have consolidated our dominance in the province and we are now looking forward to fully implementing Zim Asset and uplift the lives of the people,” he said.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission official Mr Assan Ntabeni Mkwananzi presided over the nominations.
