ZANU-PF has come up with provisional dates for its youth and women’s league congresses ahead of the national elective congress to be held in December.
The party’s spokesperson, Cde Rugare Gumbo yesterday said the youth congress is scheduled for August 7 to 10 while the Women’s league congress will be held from August 20 to 22 in Harare.
The dates were set during an extraordinary politburo meeting held on Thursday.
Cde Gumbo however said the dates were subject to change since the politburo was yet to approve the dates.
He also said the party was yet to meet to deliberate on the December congress.
“The extraordinary meeting was largely to deal with the youth and women’s league congresses to be held in August in Harare. The politburo is yet to approve the dates but we have proposed August 7 to 10 for the youth congress and August 20 to 22 for the women’s league congress,” said Cde Gumbo.
“Preparations are generally on course but there’s a need to raise money for the two congresses.”
Cde Gumbo said the politburo discussed the issue of generating revenue for the party to meet its expenses.
“We need to come up with ways to generate revenue for the party to run smoothly. One of the suggested ideas was the collection of subscriptions from all members. We therefore agreed that provinces should try and encourage party members to contribute financially to boost the party’s coffers.
“We also agreed that we need to find well wishers in the private sector and public institutions that can support the party as it is leading in the development of the country,” said Cde Gumbo.
He said the politburo is expected meet again on Wednesday next week.
