Zanu-PF stops members from electioneering

campaigning before announcement of primary election dates.
About 13 Zanu-PF members are jostling to represent the party in Wedza North and South constituencies and were already campaigning without the party’s blessings.
During a restructuring meeting in Wedza last Friday Hwedza District Co-ordinating Committee chairperson Cde Stanley Mapako told provincial chairman Cde Ray Kaukonde that 13 officials including DCC members were already on the ground campaigning.
Cde Kaukonde immediately stopped the prospective candidates from electioneering saying they should follow the party procedure. He called for discipline among the party members.
“The party has circulated a circular informing you that no one should be campaigning. We want discipline in the party. It is disheartening to hear that 13 people in two constituencies want to be MPs.
“You have to follow party procedures and stop disturbing the incumbents from exercising their mandate,” said Cde Kaukonde.
He also lamented the “hijacking” of the party by officials using money to buy votes.
Cde Kaukonde said only party members with a history in the party would be allowed to stand in the elections.
“We hear that there are people who are using money to buy votes and as a party we are not going to condone that. Only those who have a history in the party will be allowed to represent the party. Some of you have been given pumpkins and you are now supporting those people,” he said.
In Mutoko Cde Kaukonde encouraged party members to be united and register so that they can be eligible voters.
“If we are to win, in any elections we have to be united than be on each other’s throats over positions. As Zanu-PF we will only take people who are in the structures. Party structures should be there whether there are elections or not.
