Zanu-PF to strip Bhasikiti of party assets

ZANU-PF’s Masvingo provincial leadership say they will repossess assets, including a party issued vehicle, from expelled former Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti as he is no longer a member of the revolutionary party.

Masvingo provincial acting chairman, Cde Paradzai Chakona said plans were at an advanced stage to strip Bhasikiti of benefits and properties that he is not entitled to.

Cde Chakona said they intend to repossess a vehicle the former Politburo member received to campaign ahead of the 2013 general elections.

He also said the former Mwenezi East National Assembly member’s 400 hectare farm in Mwenezi would be subdivided to allocate to some landless people.

“Bhasikiti has demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that he is no-longer part of us and that means he should not remain with Zanu-PF assets. Despite being expelled for the crimes of planning to topple President Mugabe through unorthodox means, Bhasikiti went further and took the party to court to contest his expulsion,” said Cde Chakona.

He said despite losing the battle to have his expulsion nullified, Bhasikiti went further and filed an urgent application in court to stop President Mugabe from declaring the Mwenezi East constituency vacant.

“Our constitution is very clear; one can’t go to court to challenge a party decision let alone that of the President of the country. All his shenanigans show that he should not benefit from the property. We also want to subdivide his farm in Mwenezi and give other landless people in the district. His farm is too big,” Cde Chakona said.

The High Court on Thursday threw out a review application made by Bhasikiti saying he had jumped the gun when he went to court instead of using party structures first to resolve the matter concerning his expulsion from Zanu-PF.

Justice Chinembiri Bhunu dismissed Bhasikiti’s application saying Zanu-PF’s constitution clearly indicates that an aggrieved party may approach the party’s Central committee before approaching the court.

Bhasikiti yesterday told The Chronicle that Cde Chakona was hallucinating as he was not in possession of any Zanu-PF property.

“I think the person is hallucinating. I don’t have any party property in my possession. The car they are referring to has been given to me as a reward for campaigning using my resources. The cars were given to all sitting Members of the House of Assembly after we vigorously campaigned using our own money. No-one will take the car, it’s mine,” said Bhasikiti.

On the subdivision of his farm, he said, “The issue of farms is entirely the Ministry of Land and Resettlement’s responsibility.

“Chakona and others should not assume the ministry’s duties. They’re not entitled to such actions. Those who have attempted to illegally occupy my farm were arrested.”
