Zanu-PF warns seniors against abusing powers

“This letter serves to remind all members of the National Consultative Assembly, Central Committee and Politburo that it has been observed that some senior members of the party are usurping powers of the provincial

chairpersons and are now running provinces in violation of the Constitution,” said Cde Mutasa.
He urged the senior leaders to desist from such a practice.

“We would want to appeal to all senior leaders of the party to desist from directly running provinces and should advise the provincial executive council members and remain the point of appeal in case of any problems in the province,” he said.

Cde Mutasa said the duty of senior leaders was to educate, guide, advise and direct provincial leadership on matters of ideology and policies of the party.
He also encouraged provincial leaders to continue respecting and consulting the senior leadership of the party in their provinces.

The constitution of the party, according to Cde Mutasa, states that the provincial chairman is the one mandated to chair the provincial coordinating committee, which meets once in every three months, presides over the Joint Provincial Council which meets at least twice a year, and all other meetings in the province.
