ZANU-PF has retained Chipinge Ward One seat after trouncing all opposition parties that contested in the by-election held last Friday. Ward One seat fell vacant following the death of Cde Albert Mzimba, who died on October 20 last year. Zanu-PF’s candidate, Cde Samuel Conrad Manyange, polled 991 votes to romp to victory, while his closest challenger, Mr Munyaradzi Mazunze of the National Constitutional Assembly, had a paltry 195 votes. Mr Chimana Muchinawo of Transform Zimbabwe got 125 votes, while Mr Henry Masaiti of MDC Renewal emerged least with 80 votes.
In an interview after Cde Manyange was declared the winner, he called for unity of purpose among all people in the ward to ensure development. Cde Manyange also thanked the electorate for showing their confidence in the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF.
“I would like to thank all supporters in this ward for resoundingly voting for Zanu-PF. I am ready to fulfil all election promises that we made as a party to the electorate during our campaign.
“I hope we can work together with other colleagues in bringing sustainable development in this ward. I am urging people to be patient with us because development cannot be achieved overnight,” he said.
