THE Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial youth league yesterday passed a vote of no confidence on six members of its executive for allegedly trying to unseat the  wing’s chairperson Cde Khumbulani Mpofu and secretary for administration Cde Cecilia Verenga. The six: Cde Tapiwa Moyo secretary for Finance, Cde Methuseli Ndlovu secretary for production and labour, Cde Quiet Moyo   deputy secretary for economic affairs, Cde Kelvin Musuti deputy secretary for business and liaison, Cde Bhekinkosi Dube deputy secretary for commissariat and Nomaqhawe Mukwena deputy secretary for the disabled were also accused of seeking to oust national youth member representing Bulawayo Cde Mpehlabayo Malinga.

The six had earlier circulated a petition accusing Mpofu and Verenga of allowing secretary of indigenisation and empowerment Cde Davies Mhambi to distribute placards allegedly denouncing local leadership.

The placards Mhambi allegedly distributed were carried by party youths at the Joshua Mqabuko International Airport when President Mugabe arrived last Friday on his way to the National University of Science and Technology graduation.

The President took some time  to read the placards that denounced Vice President Joice Mujuru over allegations of corruption,  Cde Jabulani Sibanda for  statements made against the First Family and factionalism in the party.

The six ousted youth leaders had in their petition accused the youth provincial chairperson of negligence for allowing the placards to be distributed.

Cde Mpofu said at an emergency executive meeting a vote of no confidence was passed on the six youth leaders, with 31 of the 40 executive members voting for their ouster.

He said the six who had  since been ousted, wanted to punish him and the other executive members for endorsing President Mugabe and First Lady Grace Mugabe ahead of the Zanu-PF congress.

“They only managed to get eight people to sign the petition. This  is a project led by Cde Khumbulani Mlilo and Cde Maira Ngozo who helped draft the petition,” said Cde Mpofu.

He said a member of the wing  was given the petition to sign but sent it to the leadership, bringing the matter to light and the subsequent decision to act against the six alleged plotters.

“We immediately called an emergency meeting and passed a vote of no confidence on the six.  We’ve heard that there are nicodemous meetings outside Bulawayo and within with the intention of causing chaos in the party,” said Cde Mpofu

In their petition, the fired members accused Cde Verenga of taking part in the distribution of placards and bussing youths to other provinces without the knowledge of the executive.

The ousted youths leaders said they had lost faith in Cde Malinga who is the province’s national youth representative.

The petition did not find favour as only eight people signed it  with Cde Mpofu saying some of them were coerced.
