THREE Zanu-PF Manicaland youth league executive members who had votes of no confidence passed on them are barred from carrying out party activities until their cases have been heard by the disciplinary committee.
The three, Cdes Kelvin Manyengavana (provincial youth chairman), Getrude Mutandi (secretary for finance) and Washington Ziwiwi had votes of no confidence passed on them for contravening the party’s constitution among a host of allegations. The trio also had prohibition orders given to them by the vice-chairman of the Manicaland executive committee Cde Joseph Mujati, who is also the provincial chairman for the disciplinary committee, barring them from conducting any party business until their cases are heard and finalised.
Addressing members of the youth league executive at Manicaland Provincial Administrator’s Conference Room on Sunday, Zanu-PF youth league national secretary for commissariat Cde Innocent Hamandishe said as national executive members, they would not interfere with the three’s disciplinary process.
Cde Hamandishe said Cde Manyengavana was barred from calling or chairing any meeting and anyone who attends his meetings risks being booted out of the party.
“As the youths, we are the vanguard of the party and we should guard against being used by few individuals pursuing personal agendas. Manyengavana is barred from calling for any meetings until his case has been finalised by the disciplinary committee. Anyone who attends meetings called by the three risks being fired from the party.
“The vice-chairman, Cde Mubuso Chinguno, will be the acting chairman and I want to urge everyone here to respect the party’s leadership. Some of you are in the habit of denigrating national executive members like Cde Kudzi Chipanga through the social media, but I want to warn you that there is no room for indiscipline in Zanu-PF.
“We have also received complaints from the women’s league over the conduct of Cdes Mutandi and Ziwiwi and this is not acceptable. As youths we are there to protect our mothers and not to harass them,” said Cde Hamandishe.
Speaking at the same occasion, national executive member Cde Betty Dhliwayo called on the youths to respect the Dr Samuel Undenge-led Manicaland provincial executive. “Cde Undenge is our leader and we should all rally behind him. We also want unity of purpose among all cadres because we cannot allow the free-for-all situation that was prevailing in the youth wing. We were taken aback by some members’ action among them provincial members who were hackling senior members during the just-ended 15th National People’s Conference in Victoria Falls. No-one will take us seriously if we fail to respect our leaders,” she said.
Announcing the vote of no confidence last Thursday, Cde Chinguno, said: “Cde Kelvin Manyengavana and Ziwiwi connived to disobey an instruction from the national political commissar which was instructing Manicaland Youth League to hold an inter-district conference on November 27, 2015 because Cde Manyengavana was out of the country. This was despite the fact that the vice-chairman and the entire provincial executive members and all the required district executive chairpersons were in the country.”
Cdes Mutandi and Ziwiwi were accused of illegally interfering with the operations of the provincial women’s league despite the fact that there are not members of that organ.
“They hired and ferried thugs using Getrude Mutandi’s vehicle to disturb and boo members of the national executive of the women’s league led by Cde Eunice Sandi Moyo, who had come to Manicaland Province to meet the provincial women’s league pertaining their women’s league affairs.
“Cde Mutandi and Ziwiwi had come to the provincial women’s league meeting claiming to be supporters of the then suspended Manicaland provincial chairlady, Cde Happiness Nyakuedzwa.
“It required the intervention of the visiting national women’s league leadership. Such actions are contrary to the aims and objective of the youth league, Article 22 /193.3 (iii),” read the statement that was copied to Cdes Togarepi (national secretary for youth affairs), Chipanga (deputy national secretary for youth affairs), Hamandishe (national youth political commissar), Saruchera (Manicaland provincial secretary for administration), Mapamba (Manicaland provincial commissar) and Matsikenyere (Manicaland provincial chairlady).
Cdes Manyengavana, Mutandi and Ziwiwi were alleged to be in the habit of insulting senior party leaders through the social media particularly WhatsApp.
Some of the WhatsApp groups cited include Zim 1 Group (allegedly administered by Cde Sibongile Sibanda, a national executive member, Dare ReChimurenga (allegedly administered by Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu, former youth chairman, Mashonaland Central and Cdes and Friends (allegedly administered by Cde Cleopas Samanga, Manicaland provincial secretary for transport and welfare).
The disgruntled members also alleged that the trio had continued defying instructions from Zanu-PF national leadership.
