ZIMBABWE Defence Forces put up some polished performances to win all their five matches in the Nedbank Premier Netball League bubble at Thornhill High School in Gweru last weekend.
The solid shows ensured that they remained on top of the standings going into the four-week, mid-season break, with 26 points to their name, the same as Black Rhinos but with a better goal difference.
Undefeated in all the bubbles going into the Gweru contest, ZDF was expected to falter against Harare City in what was touted as the match of the bubble on Saturday.
While both teams had posted routine wins in their opening games of the bubble, there was some cold war between the teams in the build up to the clash with players taunting each other in typical rivalry fashion.
It was a game that lived to its billing, especially in the opening half when the teams went toe to toe in terms of both possession and points on the scoreboard.
However, with Harare City mainstay Takadanaishe Zimusi injured midway through the game, ZDF found an outlet which they fully utilised to get over the line with a commanding final score 70-34.
The municipal club also lost further ground after losing to Harare District who are now third on the log after also winning all their five games.
PNL spokesperson Innocent Ndiya is satisfied with the level of competition in the league.
He said they will be looking to see more when clubs beef up their squads in during the ongoing transfer window, which opened on July 1.
