THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) will launch this year’s Community Assistance Week programme tomorrow at Kuwadzana 2 High School, where Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri will hand over an administration block built by the ZDF as part of its corporate social responsibility programmes.
The Community Assistance Week will run between Monday and Friday.
Throughout the week, ministry officials and ZDF commanders will hand over several projects undertaken by the Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe to communities countrywide.
The Community Assistance Week will precede the 44th anniversary of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day celebrations scheduled for August 13 at Rufaro Stadium.
In a statement, the ZDF public relations department said: “The Community Assistance Week will be officially launched in Harare Metropolitan province at Kuwadzana 2 High School on August 5, 2024, where the Minister of Defence, Honourable OCZ Muchinguri-Kashiri, will hand over a single-storey administration block.
“In Matabeleland North province, the Deputy Minister of Defence, Honourable Brigadier-General (Retired) Levi Mayihlome, will hand over two classroom blocks at Tshino Secondary in Tsholotsho district, on August 6, 2024.
“In the Midlands province, the Permanent Secretary for Defence, Cde Aaron Nhepera, will hand over a classroom block at Tsungai Primary School in Nembudziya, Gokwe North district, on August 7, 2024.
“In Manicaland province, the Commander, Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, will hand over two classroom blocks at the new site of St Charles Luwanga Secondary School in Chimanimani district on August 8, 2024.”
On Wednesday, Commander, Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe, will hand over a classroom block at Samanyika Primary School, in Donzvo-Nyamaropa, Nyanga North district, Manicaland province.
On the same day, Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede, Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, will hold a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Denzva Clinic in Rusape, Manicaland province.
“In addition to the handing over of completed projects, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces medical teams, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, will conduct free outreach medical assistance programmes at Siphepha Clinic in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province; at Tsonzo Clinic in Mutasa; and at Denzva Clinic in Rusape, Manicaland province, from August 5-9, 2024.
“Due to the massive renovations being done at the traditional venue, the National Sports Stadium, this year’s national celebrations will be held at Rufaro Stadium, while provincial celebrations will be conducted at the traditional venues countrywide.”
