ZETDC to instal street lights

ZIMBABWE Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) Southern Region has partnered with Gweru and Kwekwe city councils in a programme of repairing street lights.
The commercial manager for Southern Region, Peter Bauline said the initiative came out of council meetings where both councils agreed with the power utility company to work together in identifying areas which need to be attended.

“We had a meeting with the two councils and agreed to work together in installing street lights. This is part of our corporate social responsibility programme,” Bauline said.

He said the power utility has already started working on the programme in Gweru and Kwekwe.
Bauline said ZETDC will first attend to all major roads in Gweru and Kwekwe before moving to residential areas.

Residents from areas that have no street lights are often subjected to robberies, muggings, theft and house break-ins, among other crimes owing to the darkness.
The areas, nicknamed “dark cities,” are often found in new high density suburbs where a lot of construction will be taking place.
