Zevgolis triumphs in gruelling Bulawayo 3-Hour Endurance Race

BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe – Defending champion Zevgolis triumphs in gruelling Bulawayo 3-Hour Endurance Race cemented his legacy as one of Zimbabwe’s motorsport greats by clinching his fifth victory at the 2024 Bulawayo 3-Hour Endurance Race on 8 December 2024.
In the bikers’ category, Mathew Schultz took the top spot in the 1-Hour Endurance Race, marking a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 motorsport calendar.
The prestigious event, hosted at the 4.081km Bulawayo Motoring Club circuit, saw 26 vehicles line up for the title fight. However, only 15 managed to cross the finish line, as mechanical failures and fierce competition tested both man and machine. The much-anticipated entries of the Gutherless and the BMW 222 were notably absent from the main race due to mechanical issues, leaving fans disappointed.

Zevgolis, known for his strategic prowess and unmatched stamina, navigated the challenging course with precision to claim the title yet again, reinforcing his dominance in Zimbabwean motorsport.
The Bulawayo 3-Hour Endurance Race, dating back to 1969, holds a revered place in Zimbabwe’s motorsport history. It has long been a proving ground for competitors’ physical endurance, mental resilience, and tactical planning. The event’s storied past includes legends such as John Love, a name synonymous with motorsport excellence in Zimbabwe.

Endurance racing is no easy feat. The gruelling nature of the 3-hour event pushes participants to their limits, demanding exceptional physical fitness, mental toughness, and a deep understanding of pacing and strategy.
Motorsport enthusiasts packed the venue to witness the roaring spectacle as high-performance vehicles tackled the snaking course in what many described as a “Clash of the Titans.”
While the competition was fierce, the event also highlighted the unpredictability of endurance racing. Mechanical failures, including those of the Gutherless and BMW 222, underscored the high stakes and technical challenges that define this sport.
Despite these setbacks, the spectacle lived up to its billing, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the next edition of the Bulawayo 3-Hour.

As the 2024 motorsport season draws to a close, Zevgolis’ victory serves as a testament to his enduring skill and determination, ensuring his place among the legends of Zimbabwean motorsport.
