THE rejuvenated wordsmith, Leonard “Karikoga” Zhakata, who is bubbling high with a rollercoaster album, Nguva Yenyasha will tomorrow (Saturday) meet his esteemed Mutare fans at Pick and Save.
The prolific Zora proponent will square off with current hottest property in the music industry, Jah Prayzah, in a potentially explosive show.
This comes as good news to all Zora fans after the charming musician last performed in Mutare more than three months ago. That night, Zhakata performed in front of less than 50 people. It was a very cold night with rain showers.
Despite all that, Zhakata, being an excellent performer as he is, never faltered but put up a top-drawer performance.
This weekend he is expected to carry on from where he left and belt out a blend of new hits and yester-year oldies that made him a respected giant in the music industry. He has highly acclaimed albums such as Maruva Enyika, Mubikira, Pakuyambuka and Ndingaite Sei?
He rose beyond the mediocre periphery this year following the release of Nguva Yenyasha, an album that carries the ZIMA song of the year and hit Dhonza Makomborero.
Fans will be tempted to compare Zhakata, the carver of the all-time hit song, Mugove and Jah Prayzah, an instrumentalist par-excellence who beautifully blends contemporary and traditional instruments and come up with a distinct sound.
It is a combination of geniuses.
Jah Prayzah, real name, Mukudzei Mukombe is now one of the much sought after musicians in the country and has managed to maintain a huge following during his shows.
His performance usually attracts more than 1 000 revelers and he hypnotizes them all.
The lanky and energetic talented mbira player is riding high with his latest album, Kumbumura Mhute.
Show organisers confirmed the show and urged patrons to come in their numbers to witness joint performances of two of the finest performers in the country.
“We are back with a bang after a short sabbatical. We always value our patrons and hosting these two artistes was a passionate plea made by their respective fans. Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu and Soul Jah Love are some of the musicians expected to perform at our venue before the year curtains down,” said the organisers.
The organisers said American dancehall musician Busy Signal was expected to perform at the same venue before the end of year.
